INSIDE THE WORLDS GREATEST HOTELS
It was quite a revelation - That moment when the Book comes to life . When someone wants to interview you - on Television - all about your months and months of research, the isolated hours spent holed up on your computer, searching endlessly for the right word to describe the experience as best you can.
Searching for a different way to express the lucidity of an infinity swimming pool, the frame of a hotel suite, the famous names that made it their home - the months of edits from your editor. And then suddenly, a TV Company comes calling !
And they want to hear from you….on your opinion - About your Book - in real time.
.The book that has been inside your mind for years, travelled with you, and you have taken it over hundreds of miles up and down mountains, on trains, planes and automobiles, that when you speak about at some events - people look questioningly as if - Really - you wrote a Book - about this?
Although I have been interviewed for newspapers and magazines and that has been a magical process , seeing your quotes come to life on the page , about a book that you have created from scratch , and even on radio before, there was magic in that too, there something a little bit different about this, and it felt as if suddenly the book was going into a different sphere. You are coming under a whole new level of scrutiny..
You are no longer just an Author - you are now required to appear in 3D - and speak about it.
I was secretly a bit thrilled when I was approached in July 2019 about appearing in this brilliant series that has just launched on Channel 5.
“Inside the Worlds Greatest Hotels” It took quite a long time for the production team to pin down some dates, as ever being based in Scotland has its advantages and disadvantages - and there were a few attempts.
But it was a beautiful November day that I got the Train to Edinburgh to meet the Team of Two Four Productions, a superb
production company based in Plymouth . It was a great opportunity for me to speak about The Balmoral , being one of my favourite Hotels from the Book , and one that I know very very well. Having visited through the years and seen how it has changed.
I was welcomed by the producers - Tim Williams and Emma Fraser, who immediately made me feel at ease, offering me tea and biscuits, and then after a quick warning to adjust my make - up (as they didn’t want me to look too shiny!) The cameras began to roll..
They both seemed so incredibly knowledgable on the subject of Hotels , that I felt in very good company.
It was a pleasure to be included and interviewed for this episode on The Balmoral, and then later on The Beverly Hills Hotel, Caesars Palace and The Dorchester. - Tessa Williams
